Why ECE (VLSI) @ KITSW…

India is entering a defining era of semiconductor growth, driving demand for skilled professionals in VLSI and chip design. Recognizing that semiconductors are the foundation of every modern electronic device — from smartphones and automobiles to defense systems and space vehicles — the Government of India has launched one of the most ambitious semiconductor strategies in the world. The nation’s drive to achieve self-reliance in chip design and manufacturing creates an unprecedented demand for skilled VLSI professionals over the next decade.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (VLSI) @ KITSW aims at producing UG & PG engineering graduates capable of addressing real-world challenges and contribute to societal development and nation building. Presently, the department is offering UG programmes in B.Tech. ECE (VLSI Design & Technology), B.Tech. (ECI) and PG programme in M.Tech. (EV). Additionally, the department has a recognized Research Centre under Kakatiya University (KU) Warangal and offers state-of-the-art research facilities to the Ph.D. Scholars registered in the specified areas of VLSI, Electronics, Communication and Signal Processing.

  • Infrastructure: Well-furnished Laboratories with state-of-the-art software and equipment in line with Industry 4.0 & Industry 5.0 technologies.

  • Placements: On and Off campus placements in reputed Core, Software, and Public Sector companies like Reliance Power, MOSCHIP, BOSCH, Caterpillar Electronics, TCS, LTM, Accenture, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Musigma, Google, IBM, BARC, IOCL, ISRO, DRDO, SAIL, NTPC, KTPS, JKP, etc.

  • Opportunities: Opportunities in Industries related to VLSI domain like Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA and related to Embedded Systems domain like Honeywell, Qualcomm, AMD, GE Vernova, Tata Elxsi, Cyient and other opportunities in the domains of IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Wireless communications, Sensor design & development etc.

To keep pace with the ever-changing industrial needs, the curricula of both UG and PG programmes offered by the department are periodically reviewed and revised. Based on the inputs from the stakeholders, new courses were added in the UG curriculum, to enable the students to pursue their professional goals on par with Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) students.

The department has well equipped laboratories to cater for the curriculum of UG and PG programmes. The labs are equipped with Cadence tools, Xilinx ISE, Microwind (3nm) software, NI LabVIEW, BIOPAC, ARM, MATLAB, Industrial IoT, PLC, DCS etc. The department has a Centre of Excellence (CoE) -NI LabVIEW Academy which offers certified training program in LabVIEW to the students of all branches of the institute.

The department has a team of experienced and committed faculty who strive hard for the growth and development of the department by providing outcome-based education to the students. The teaching learning process adapted focuses on research and hands-on learning approaches in tune with the latest technology trends.

To align with emerging industry demands and future technological requirements in the field of VLSI design & technology and Embedded systems, the Department of Electronics Communication and Instrumentation Engineering (ECIE) has been renamed as the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (VLSI). The department was established in the year 1981 in Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science (KITS), Warangal. The department formerly offered B.Tech (EIE) and M.Tech (VLSI & Embedded Systems). The institute to its credit is first in the country to offer a B.Tech programme in Electronics & Instrumentation stream.

The B.Tech (ECI) programme has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of AICTE, New Delhi under Tier-I, for 3 years period in the academic year 2024-25. The B.Tech (EIE) programme has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of AICTE, New Delhi for the first time in 2003 and has remained accredited ever since.
